October Mid Month Newsletter
Good Afternoon Hillcrest Families and Friends!
It was a pleasure to see many of our families at our recent parent teacher conferences. We are grateful for the partnership that we have with families and recognize that together, our impact is powerful.
ADAMS 12 BALLOT PROPOSALS
Blueprint Funding Proposals, which will appear on this November’s ballot, resulted from more than a year-long engagement process to identify the community’s values and priorities for schools across the district. Thank you for helping build this plan and its investments!
Read the Top 10 Facts about Blueprint to see how the district plans to make facility and programming investments at every school.
COMMUNITY FLIERS
While you receive all school based flyers and communication on Wednesdays, you can access our community flyers anytime by visiting our school website here.
FALL BREAK - NO SCHOOL
A reminder that all Adams 12 schools, including Hillcrest, have a fall break during the week of October 14-18 and there will be no school for students. We look forward to seeing students when we return back on Monday, October 21st.
HALLOWEEN
If your child is planning to participate in Halloween, please keep the following guidelines in mind when considering a costume. The following are considered not appropriate for school or school events:
- Costumes that are overly graphic, promote violence or otherwise might logically be assumed to be offensive to others
- Costumes that are sexually suggestive and would otherwise violate the school’s dress code
- Costumes with sound effects, lights or other components which would disrupt the classroom learning environment
- Costumes that could be considered insensitive to various races, cultures and religions
- Toy or facsimile weapons of any kind (guns, knives, swords, bats, etc.) are not allowed
- Costumes or dress of any kind that may be potentially disruptive to the educational or school environments
HALLOWEEN “festivities”
On Halloween, teachers will be hosting classroom parties before all students participate in a Halloween parade around the playground/field starting at 2:10. All families are invited to watch and cheer on our students as they participate with their class in the parade. The classroom party which will take place beforehand, is intended to be only for teachers and their students and will not include parents. Teachers value the time to spend with students in non academic ways and this allows them that time to build relationships with students.
Teachers may send out a sign up for snacks to enjoy in the classroom and although we typically don’t allow “sweet treats” in the classroom for any other occasion (such as birthdays), we will be allowing them for holiday parties. While this seems contradictory to our wellness policy, because holiday parties happen at a predetermined date and time, families can have conversations and plan accordingly prior to the event. Birthday treats, on the other hand, are unannounced and inequitable for various reasons in a school setting.
ATTENDANCE INCENTIVES
Good attendance is critical to a student’s social and academic success. While we can provide missed work to students, there is no replacement for being here at school. We are providing some fun rewards for students the next few weeks as an extra motivator to be here at school. Please help your students be here and on time each day. From October 21st to November 22nd, we will be running some attendance incentives!
Here are a few of the items and experiences your student may win:
Weekly individual incentives: Each week we will randomly select one primary and one intermediate student who had perfect attendance for the week. They will win a prize basket with some fun items and treats.
Best class: The primary class and intermediate class with the best attendance for the whole period will earn an extra recess with Mr. Peterson and Mrs. Fiorenza!
Upcoming Dates:
- October 14-18 - Fall Break, No school
- October 31 – Halloween
- November 1- No school for students
Please feel free to contact me directly with any questions, concerns, suggestions or feedback.
Sincerely,
Erika Fiorenza
