March Newsletter
Dear Hillcrest Families and Friends,
I hope that this letter finds you and your family doing well as we approach spring and the 4th quarter of the school year! Things seem to pick up in intensity and time just seems to speed by as we approach the end of year.
March 18 - Art and Music Showcase!!!
We are looking forward to this special event that is quickly approaching! Please plan to join us anytime between 5:30-6:30 on Tuesday, March 18th for our “Art and Music Showcase”. Come view our students’ artwork which will be displayed throughout the front entrance and cafeteria and stay for the choir performance in the cafeteria at 6:15! Additionally, Tuesday during the school day will be “fancy day” so that we are ready for this special event. (Please note that there will be NO PEAK for PEAK students on this night.)
Our Lost and Found is overflowing!
When you come on March 18th, please make sure to stop by our “lost and found” collection and claim what has been lost - it is overflowing!
School Funding Update - Take Action!
Colorado’s governor is proposing cutting our district’s funding by $13.2 million next year. This would force us to face the most difficult budgeting year since the Great Recession. A cut of that magnitude would mean larger class sizes, less academic and mental health support for students, fewer academic and extracurricular activities for students here and across the state. It's not too late to find a reasonable funding solution for Colorado's schools for next year. If you find the points made here concerning, please reach out to your state legislators and the governor to share your thoughts about the proposed funding plan. Here is a short letter you can quickly and easily send. Please feel free to add your personal perspective as a parent.
Grades 3rd, 4th and 5th - Upcoming “Colorado Measures of Academic Success”, CMAS testing
will begin when we return from spring break. This state test is given to all 3rd, 4th and 5th graders and is an important measurement of all their academic growth and overall learning. Students will complete three math tests and three language arts tests; additionally, fifth grade students will have an additional three science tests. It is important that your student is here all day, every day during the testing window. Please schedule any outside appointments after school hours to ensure that your students are here. Each testing day, students in attendance will be entered into a raffle to receive a prize!
- 3rd and 4th graders will test on April 9, 10 and 11
- 5th graders will test April 9, 11, 16, 17, 18 and 19
If you have any questions about CMAS, please reach out to Mr. Peterson, the Assistant Principal at 720-972-5380.
