March Mid Month Newsletter

March Mid Month Newsletter

Hello Hillcrest  Families and Friends,

I hope that this email finds you doing well as we transition into the spring months!  Spring break is right around the corner and here are some timely updates!

THE SOLAR ECLIPSE

On April 8, 2024, from approximately 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.,a partial solar eclipse will be visible across the Five Star District.

Safety is our top priority. To ensure our students experience the eclipse in the safest way possible, we will only allow students to view the eclipse by using special viewing glasses.   Additionally, each student must return a signed permission slip to their teacher by March 29, 2024 in order to view the eclipse. Students whose parents do not sign the permission slip will be able to watch the live NASA broadcast of the eclipse.  A paper copy of a permission slip will be sent home with your child by the end of the week.

CMAS Testing

CMAS testing will begin after spring break.  This state test is given to all  3rd, 4th and 5th graders and is an important measurement of all their academic growth and overall learning.  Students will complete three math tests and three language arts tests; additionally, fifth grade students will  have an additional three science tests.  It is important that your students are here all day, every day during the testing window.  Please schedule any outside appointments after school hours to ensure that your students are here.  Each testing day, students in attendance will be entered into a raffle to receive a prize!  Additionally, the classes with the best attendance will earn a popsicle party.

  • 3rd and 4th graders will test on April 9, 10 and 11
  • 5th graders will test April 9 ,10, 12, 16, 17 and 18
