Good Afternoon Hillcrest Elementary Families and Friends!

Spring feels like it is already upon us and we are excited about the upcoming month here at Hillcrest!

FAMILY-SCHOOL RELATIONSHIPS SURVEY

Thank you to all families who were able to complete the Family-School Survey!  We had nearly 60 families give us feedback!   We look forward to reviewing your feedback as a staff and sharing our next steps with you by the end of the month.

Picture Day - Class and Individual Pictures

On Wednesday, March 18, all students will have the opportunity to take a class photo as well as individual pictures.  You can pay ahead of time by visiting mylifetouch.com and enter with the code: EVT8NNBC6.

Coffee and Convo

Please join us this Friday, March 6 from 8-9 am for “Coffee and Convo”, an informal meeting intended to connect with families, answer questions and hear directly from you!  This month, we will have Kimberly Shannon, our Academic Interventionist, join us to share ideas to help your child with reading and mathematical foundational skills at home.  We hope to see you there!

After School Club Reminders

At Hillcrest, many school staff support after school “clubs” such as Student Council, basketball, etc.  School “rules” still apply within after school clubs, because it is an extension of the school day which includes behavior expectations and attendance.  A couple of reminders for all:

  • Students may not attend a club unless they are officially registered and a signed permission form is on file.
  • Students who are accepted into a club are expected to attend on all days they are present at school.
  • If a student misses 50% or more of the club meetings, the teacher or sponsor will contact the parent/guardian to discuss next steps.
  • Students who sign up for and are accepted into a club may not withdraw to join another club. An exception may be made for participation in academic clubs such as GT, Battle of the Books, Girls Who Code, or Student Council.
  • Students must be picked up promptly at the conclusion of each club meeting. If a student is not picked up within 10 minutes after the club ends, the parent or guardian will receive a written Club Participation Status notice. After two such occurrences, the student will be withdrawn from the club.

Hillcrest Focus of the Month - Problem solving

This month at Hillcrest, we are focused on “Problem solving” both at school and beyond!  We describe “problem solving” as “The ability to identify a problem, figure out why it's happening and come up with a way to fix it.”

Upcoming Dates:

  • March 6, 8-9 - Coffee and Convo
  • March 9 - No School for students; staff work day
  • March 18  - Class and Individual Spring Pictures
  • March 20 - Student Recognition Assembly
  • March 24-27 - No School for Students; Spring Break!

As always, we are grateful for your continued support and partnership with us.  If you have any comments, questions, feedback or compliments, please feel free to reach out directly to me.

Sincerely,

Erika Fiorenza
