Final 23-24 Newsletter
Good Afternoon Hillcrest Families and Friends!
We are in the final weeks of the 2023-2024 school year and what an amazing year it has been! Thank you to all of our students and families who recently participated in our Celebration of Learning! What a way to bring closure to the year by celebrating some of the many successes that our students have experienced this year as Hillcrest Hornets. A few reminder about the final, end of year festivities coming up at Hillcrest:
Spirit Week - Monday, May 20th- Friday, May 25
This coming week will be “spirit week” sponsored by our Hillcrest Student Council. This is an optional way to show additional school spirit and your child may choose to participate in the following fun:
- Monday - Pajama day
- Tuesday - Book Character Day
- Wednesday - Fancy Day
- Thursday - Neon Day
- Friday - Sports Day
FIELD DAY - Friday, May 24 (Rain backup date will be Tuesday, May 28)
Field day will take place on Friday, May 24th for all students. This year, our students in grades 3, 4 and 5 will have field day from 8:10 - 10:35 am on the back playground and field area. Our students in grades K, 1 and 2 will participate from 11:50 - 2:15 pm. This event is intended to be joyful for students and as such, there is a low level of competition for the games and activities. While we invite all parents to attend and cheer on our students as they participate in this fun event, we will not tolerate any criticism directed towards staff or altercations between adults. Additionally, please remember that there are no dogs allowed and that smoking / vaping is strictly prohibited.
Reminders for all students:
- Wear sunscreen and a hat
- Pack a water bottle
- Wear athletic shoes
Because this is an outside event, parents will not be able to come in and out through the building unless you check in at the main office with your ID. All visitors will have access to the gym restrooms if needed.

The continuation ceremonies will be held on Thursday, May 30th in the school cafeteria. The kindergarten ceremony will take place from 8:30-9:15; the 5th grade ceremony will take place from 10:00-11:00 am. If parents choose to check students out for the remainder of the day, a form of ID will be required.

How to get ready for the 2024-2025 school year!
Keep your child reading! Time spent reading will help maintain the growth that students have made over the course of this year. To encourage reading, we will be sending home a reading log on the final day of school for all students to participate. If your child reads for a minimum of 5 hours this summer they will be invited to participate in a popsicle party when we return in August.
Parent Portal
More information will be coming regarding registering through the online portal prior to the beginning of next school year. Through the portal, you will be able to view your child’s teacher in early August.
Save the date for Back to School Night!
Come for an informal meet and greet in which you can deliver school supplies, meet your teachers and see your new classrooms on Thursday, August 8th from 5-7 pm.
As always, if you have any questions, concerns, compliments or suggestions, please feel free to reach out to me directly. This school year has been amazing and we are looking forward to a strong and celebratory finish to the year!
Sincerely,
Erika Fiorenza
