February Newsletter
Dear Hillcrest Families and Friends,
We hope that this message finds you doing well as we transition into another busy month at Hillcrest.
Parent Teacher Conferences
On Friday, January 24th, teachers sent a “Sign Up Genius” link to all families which will allow you to schedule your child’s conference. This year, conferences are scheduled to take place on Thursday, February 6th from 3:15- 7:00 pm and Thursday, February 13th from 3:15 - 7:00 pm. We are looking forward to seeing you to update you on your child’s growth throughout the year this far, as well as gather insight from you as to how we can continue to support your child.
Upcoming Book Fair
Get ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way (YAY!) during Parent Teacher Conferences! Before the Fair, set up eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases and we will take credit cards! We will not be accepting cash for the Book Fair. Visit our Book Fair homepage at https://www.scholastic.com/bf/
Valentine’s Day
On February 14th, teachers will be hosting small classroom parties for Valentine’s Day. The parties are intended for classroom communities only and will not include parents. Teachers value the time to spend with students in non academic ways and this allows them that time to build relationships with students.
Teachers may send out a sign up for snacks to enjoy in the classroom and although we typically don’t allow “sweet treats” in the classroom for any other occasion (such as birthdays), we will be allowing them for holiday parties. Please remember that no handmade items (cookies, cakes, etc) are allowed and cannot be brought to share with classrooms.
Update: Delayed Start for students
As you know, during our last “one hour delay” for students, we encouraged all students and staff to wear pajamas or comfy clothes to encourage students to come to school - it was a success!! Stay tuned because next time we have a “one hour delay” we will be announcing an all school HAT DAY!
Attendance Incentive
Between February 3rd and the 14th, please make sure your students are here and on time as their class will be working together to meet our attendance challenge! Every day that your child’s class has high attendance, the class will earn a letter and once the class spells “Hilly” (our school mascot), the class will earn small prizes and a fun classroom activity!
Immigration Resources
We understand that navigating immigration processes can be challenging. If you or someone you know needs support or resources related to immigration, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We have resources for local organizations and services to assist with questions and more. Please reach out to our Family Outreach Liaison, Lina at 720-972-8244.
Act Now! Contact your legislators about rejecting Governor Polis’ proposal to cut $13 million from our schools
In an effort to address a $1 billion state shortfall, Governor Jared Polis’ budget proposal, if supported by the Legislature, would amount to a $13 million dollar cut to school funding in the Five Star District.
If the Legislature supports this cut, for many school districts and schools, it would result in larger class sizes and limit student choice through the elimination of electives and extracurricular programs with modest participation levels. You can make a difference! Write or call your legislators to voice your concerns. Take action here.
