February Newsletter 2026

Good Afternoon Hillcrest Elementary Families and Friends!

I hope that this message finds you doing well - we are approaching the 100th day of school on Wednesday, February 4th which means we have a lot of learning and growth to celebrate!

FAMILY TEACHER CONFERENCES - February 10 and 12, 3:15-7:15

Next week,, we will be hosting our February Family Teacher Conferences on February 10th and 12th from 3:15-7:15.  All teachers set up a sign up genius for families to sign up for individual 15 minute conferences with your child’s teacher.  If you need additional support in signing up, please reach out to the main office at 720-972-5380.

FAMILY-SCHOOL RELATIONSHIPS SURVEY

To help us continually elevate your child’s educational experience, I encourage you to take our annual Family-School Relationships Survey! The survey is specific for our school and will help us know where we are succeeding and where we can improve. The survey is open now through Feb. 20. Take it today: www.adams12.org/familysurvey

UPCOMING BOOK FAIR

Get ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way (YAY!) during Parent Teacher Conferences!. Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them on their journey to becoming lifelong readers and, as always, every purchase at the Fair benefits our school.   Before the Fair, set up eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases and we will take credit cards!  We will not be accepting cash for the Book Fair.   Visit our Book Fair homepage at https://www.scholastic.com/bf/hillcrestelementaryschool11  to learn more and get started with eWallet.  Bookfair shopping will be open to parents during parent teacher conferences on February 10th and 12th from 3:15 - 7:00 pm in our school library!

VALENTINE’s DAY

On February 13th, teachers will be hosting small classroom parties for Valentine’s Day..  The parties are intended for classroom communities only and will not include parents. Teachers value the time to spend with students in non academic ways and this allows them that time to build relationships with students.

Teachers may send out a sign up for snacks to enjoy in the classroom and although we typically don’t allow “sweet treats” in the classroom for any other occasion (such as birthdays), we will be allowing them for holiday parties.   Please remember that no handmade items (cookies, cakes, etc) are allowed and cannot be brought to share with classrooms.

Exclusive Event for INCOMING KINDERGARTNERS and Families!

Do you know any families with preschoolers who may be interested in attending Hillcrest next year for kindergarten? If so, we are hosting an exclusive event for families to learn more about kindergarten on Tuesday, February 24 from 5-6 pm.  Spread the word!

Hillcrest Focus of the Month - RESPECT

This month, we are focusing on “respect” which we define as, “Treating someone how they want to be treated and caring about the thoughts, feelings, beliefs and rights of someone else.” While we have spent extensive time focusing on respect throughout the year, when we surveyed our students before winter break related to “How much do other students respect you?”roughly 50% of our students indicated that they do not feel respected by other peers and classmates.  Listening to our students, we’ve learned that we have some work to do in this area!

Upcoming Dates:

  • February 10 and 12, 3:15-7:15 - Family Teacher Conferences
  • February 13 - Classroom Valentine’s Day Parties
  • February 16 - NO School, President’s Day
  • February 17 - NO School, Staff workday
  • February 25- 3rd grade field trip to the Colorado Symphony

As always, we are grateful for your continued support and partnership with us.  If you have any comments, questions, feedback or compliments, please feel free to reach out directly to me.

Sincerely,

Erika Fiorenza
