April Mid Month Reminders

Good Afternoon Hillcrest Families and Friends,

 

I hope that this email finds you doing well.  I want to provide a couple of timely updates for the upcoming weeks ahead.

 

CMAS Testing - Grades 3, 4 and 5

CMAS testing is nearly over for our students - 3rd graders were done last week and our 4th and 5th graders will take their final assessments this week:

• 4th graders will test on April15
• 5th graders will test on April 15 and 16

 

If your student was absent on a testing day, make-up testing will be occurring the next two weeks. If you have any questions about CMAS, please reach out to Mr. Peterson, the Assistant Principal at 720-972-5380. 

 

April Attendance incentive

For the month of April, we are encouraging all students to be here 95% of the time - this means that students can only miss one day for the month of April!  For all students who meet the 95% goal, they will get a cool “backpack brag tag” and will be entered to win a gift card!

 

Hillcrest Focus of the Month - Growth Mindset

This month at Hillcrest, we are focused on “Growth Mindset” both at school and beyond!  We describe the “growth mindset” as, “When you believe your abilities can be developed and changed through dedication and hard work.”  One thing that we’ve been talking about here at Hillcrest, are the positive things that we can tell ourselves when things are hard.  Ask your student, “What are some things that you tell yourself when you are working through a challenge?”

 

Field Day is around the corner, scheduled to take place on Friday, May 8th, with a backup date of Monday, May 18th if needed.  We are seeking volunteers to help ensure that Field Day runs smoothly. If you are interested, please complete this form.  Volunteers will be responsible for overseeing a Field Day station as classes rotate through the activities. Each station will run for 12 minutes, and we aim to have two volunteers assigned per station.  Please note that volunteers will remain at their assigned station for the duration of the event and will not be able to leave to watch their child participate in other activities.

 

Lost and Found

Our lost and found is overflowing!  Please encourage your child to look for any missing items.  We will plan to have our lost and found out on “display” afterschool for you to browse as the weather permits in the upcoming weeks.

• May 1 - 4th grade field trip to the Denver Capital
• May 4 - No School for students
• May 8 - Field Day
• May 14 - 5th grade field trip to the Westminster Water Festival
• May 18 - Field Day back up
• May 19, 5:30-7 - Celebration of Learning
• May 21 - Last day of school for all students
  • 8:30 - 9:30 - Kindergarten continuation
  • 10 - 11 - 5th grade continuation
